Project 3 – Pyramid Box

Artist Statement:

Name: The all-seeing Box

“There is nothing to hide”

My partner and I had many ideas for this project, some were awesome but ultimately we were limited by time (project length and 3d-printer time). These ideas included a Morty Mr.Potato Head, Katana, Longboard wallet clip, and a Tripod Mount. If we had more time we would have pursued these more but in the end we are happy with our end product.

When designing the pyramid, we wanted to create a cohesive piece that shrouds one’s items in mystery— the box is specifically designed to appear to be a solid piece, while your precious objects are securely hidden within. The exterior features the all-seeing eye, implying that anyone who dares to explore the contents of another man’s personal effects is under a watchful eye. Even looking at the eye itself is kinda creepy and on first look, you wouldn’t think there would be something inside of it. The case features a revolving lid to easily access the inner contents while making it difficult to lose the top. This piece is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, attracting anyone to protect their treasures within this container fit for a king.

We really think it captures our original idea (past the failed attempts) and puts it into a simple, functional form with many uses for hiding items. We also think it hit our idea of creating a something cool and functional. It is definitely creepy but also has a modern feel to it, capturing everything we wanted.
